This year’s edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans proved to be a tough task for ALMS teams traveling to France for the famous twice-around-the-clock race. GT heavyweights Corvette and Viper both failed to earn a podium spot, although Corvette did manage a 4th place finish behind Porsche and Aston Martin entries.
In LMP2, Level 5 encountered engine problems and was unable to challenge for the win.
Even the usually reliable LMP1 Rebellion team encountered problems and both cars finished far back in the field. The Swiss team will be returning to Road Atlanta later this year to defend their Petit Le Mans title.
Patrick Dempsey’s Porsche GT-AM entry was a bright spot at Le Mans, falling just short of a podium position. Co-drivers Joe Foster and Patrick Long helped Dempsey fight for the lead several times during the grueling race. Dempsey will compete at Petit Le Mans in the GTC class.
Grand-Am teams at Le Mans also had a tough time. Krohn Racing’s Ferrari retired early and the 8 Star Motorsports team finished far back in the GT-AM field.
